A number of media sources have tried to suggest that our membership of the European Space Observatory (ESO) and the European Space Agency (ESA) would be affected by any decision to leave the political structures of the EU. This is simply not true. Both are intergovernmental organisations, and are primarily funded through annual contributions from national governments. Neither are agencies of the EU and several of their members are non-EU countries.
